« PASTIME AND GOOD COMPANY » : THE MAXIMS OF HENRY VIII ADOPTED BY THE MGEN ANGLICISTS

For the last session of 2015 the English group of the MGEN abandoned grammar and discipline and devoted themselves to the pleasures of the table. On this occasion the participants did not limit themselves to Anglo-Saxon specialties, influenced partially by Alessandro, who has a sort of missionary zeal in promoting Italian cuisine. On this occasion he regaled his classmates with an octopus salad, an exquisite creation. The other members of the group contributed delicious goodies, all but Prudy, whose gratin of sweet potatoes with marshmallows had burnt to a crisp. Everyone present would agree with Henry VIII, who said in his hit song « Pastime with Good Company » (written before he started chopping off heads) : « Past time with good company / I love and shall until I die ;........Then who can say/ but mirth and play/ is best of all ? » Prudy
